Ilaw ng Pasko at Island City Mall

Island City Mall will usher the Yuletide season with the ceremonial lighting of Christmas lanterns or parol at the mall, dubbed as “Ilaw ng Pasko”, this coming Saturday, November 11, 6 PM, at the parking area near The Buzzz Café, with the special performance of Bohol’s premier party band, CenterStage. Mall manager, Mario F. Cirujales, will lead the switching of lights of the Christmas lanterns which are all entries in the recently-concluded parol-making contest sponsored by Island City Mall. The glowing and glittering lanterns of different shapes, sizes and designs, and mostly made of indigenous materials, will add glitter to the Christmas festivity at the mall which will run until the first week of January, next year. Meanwhile, in the Grand Finals of “Gaya-Gaya Pa More!” Impersonation Contest last Sunday, November 5, at the ICM Activity Center, 44-years old veteran variety show performer Daniel N. Bautista of Sagbayan was adjudged as the Grand Champion, receiving a cash prize of P8,000, after he brought the house down with his seemingly perfect imitation of Boholano master of novelty music, Yoyoy Villame, and his comedic rendition of the favorite songs “Granada” and “Motokoy”, which sent everyone into laughing hysterics. The 2nd Place winner was a young and good-looking 24-years old Matthew James Sepe of this city, a nurse by profession, who wowed both the crowd and the judges with his copycat of Mr. Pure Energy, singing “’Wag Ka Nang Umiyak”, the OST of “Ang Probinsyano”; and the Christian dance anthem, “Shout for Joy”, with the matching back-up dancers. His voice really sounds like Gary V. which impressed everyone. Another Sagbayan native, the 36-year old Adriane Jun Amor settled for the Third Place when he mimicked the voice and moves of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, dancing the Motown hits “Beat It” and “Billy Jane “, and the classic love song, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”. The other grand finalists were “Tina Turner,” “Madonna,” “Adele,” “Freddie Aguilar,” “Air Supply” and “Luz Loreto”. The nine finalists were chosen during the series of elimination rounds conducted last September 16 and October 15, at the Activity Center. Judges of the said impersonation contest are young musician and award-winning composer Joseph Gara, veteran musician and well-known artist/writer Ariel Fullido, fashion designer/artist Oliver Acebes, and Boholana character actress,...
