Silvanas now at Island City Mall

After J.Co donuts, now comes another favorite snack food from Dumaguete City, the sweet and creamy, crunchy Silvanas which are now available here in the city in its newly-opened outlet at the lower ground level of Island City Mall, near the Activity Center. A product of the famous Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries based in Dumaguete City, Silvana is actually a frozen cookie made from a layer of butter cream, sandwiched between two cashew-meringue wafers coated with crumbs. It is the cookie version of the Sans Rival, a Filipino cake made up of similar ingredients. Living up to its name, the cakes and pastries of Sans Rival have really no rival. Thanks to Trinidad “Tita Trining” Teves-Sagarbarria, the founder of Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries, and her children who inherited the same passion and continued the baking legacy she founded. What started out as a small-time garage bakeshop in 1977, Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries evolved into a cozy café, and continue to branch out in different places, including one in California, USA, where there is a large number of Filipinos who are known to be snack lovers. Now considered as a local icon providing everyone with the sweet and deliciously baked goodies for more than three decades now, Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries has become the bakeshoppe to go for a guaranteed sweet and appetizing food...

It’s a new year with a big band! A regular entertainment feature of Island City Mall every month of January, the “BANDuary” (Bands in January) presents the best local bands every weekend at the Activity Center, such as popular party band CenterStage, hot reggae sensation Annie’s band, and fast-rising acoustic group Serenity, with the special performance of the Unexpected band. On Sunday, January 14, the premiere party band of Bohol, CenterStage, will perform at the Activity Center, starting at 3 PM, playing the best hits from the 80s and pop/RnB; from the golden favorites of Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack, Tina Turner, Queen, etc., to the latest Billboard hits of Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners, Camila Cabello, Luis Fonsi, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, etc. A sought-after corporate and wedding band for the past 21 years, CenterStage has been in the local music scene for quite a long time performing for almost two decades in some of the most notable resorts and high-end five star hotels like Henann, Bellevue, Be Grand, Bohol Beach Club, Amorita, Eskaya, Peacock Garden, Bluewater, South Palms, Mithi, Flushing Meadows, Metro Centre Hotel, etc. Undeniably one of the best party bands in Bohol, CenterStage always keeps the party alive with their signature upbeat music and energetic stage performance. The band is bannered by a power line-up of three beautiful and sexy female frontline vocalists who are veteran singers/performers from abroad. Phoebe Cheska Ungab and Jhussica Villaflores had been singing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; while the rhythm section is composed of the best and finest veteran musicians, Mags Claraval and Dot Jorza, who had been performing in Singapore, Japan and Abu Dhabi, respectively. No wonder, the band always keeps the dance floor packed during wedding receptions, corporate events and private parties. On January 20, Saturday, one of Bohol’s best reggae bands, Annie’s band, is scheduled at the Activity Center, starting at 3 PM. Known for its signature masa-type appeal and humor while on stage, Annie’s band will bring the reggae vibes and good times to everyone during the event. Their music is a seamless blend of roots reggae and revival with an occasional calypso feel to complete their island party groove. They are expected to play also a string of popular hits from their musical influences, like Bob Marley, UB40, Inner Circle; and their original compositions. The following day, Sunday, January 21, a seemingly unknown local band, The UnExpected, will perform back to back with Serenity, a soothing acoustic full band which had been performing most of the time in and around the local music circuits here in the city and Panglao...
